ALLEY A2
OBLOUKOVÁ

On the southern border of our built-up area there is an unpaved road which is devoid of any vegetation. Beyond the grassy strip of road begins a large stretch of arable land. This road serves not only as a local transport link but also as a popular route for countryside walks. Unfortunately, in its current state it lacks any kind of insulating and protective greenery and shade, leading to a loss of ecosystem services and the aesthetic value of the site. The overall condition is somewhat unsightly and in extreme climatic conditions, in extreme heat or high winds, the site is not very comfortable.
In view of these constraints, we propose a solution that maintains the traffic serviceability of the site while respecting the sufficient distance from the adjacent arable land boundary.
Given the nature of the area and its possibilities, we choose to plant an avenue of cherry trees, a combination of bird cherry trees with various fruit cultivars.
This avenue has a unified visual character that emphasises the rural character of the area and its residential agricultural atmosphere. The combination of different types of cherry trees allows for the continuous provision of food for animals and local residents throughout the season.
The planting of the avenue brings the following benefits:
- It forms an isolating and protective feature on the boundary of the built-up area.
- It improves the overall appearance of the area.
- Helps to improve the microclimate of the area.
- Enhances the use value of the area by providing fruit that local people can use.
- Creates suitable habitat for small animals which are an important part of the local ecosystem.
- It contributes to species richness and biodiversity in the area, which has a long-term positive impact on the ecosystem.
With this avenue planting, we are not only trying to improve the environment and functionality of the area, but also to create a place where nature and rural atmosphere come together for the benefit of all involved.
