AS WE GO ON

NOVEMBER – DECEMBER 2023

We start planting in November. The weather is still favourable this month. However, there is a need to hurry, as the end of this month is marked by the first frosts and with the beginning of December snow covers the landscape and sub-zero temperatures persist even in the daytime. This makes further planting impossible.

We have planted dogwoods on Sedlecka cesta (Alley A1). The Castle Road (Avenue A3), which divides two large blocks of arable land, has also been supplemented with 25 fruit trees. On Přemyšlenská Street (A4) we found space for 5 common hornbeams. We have also managed to plant 14 hornbeams on Formanská Street (A5). The grove site located between Průběžná and Šulkovna Streets also „reports“ finished.

The largest planting took place in Boleslavka Avenue (A8), which was planted with 108 fruit trees with the participation of the public and the Klecan primary and kindergarten school.

For better weather, the planting of a cherry tree avenue in Obloukova Street on Brnki A2, or 90 specimens of hazel and dogwood trees on the northern part of Formanská Road (A6). We are also looking forward to the restoration of the original dirt path, Nad Pískovnou (A7), which has been ploughed up for many years. It will be lined with fruit trees of edible cultivars.

JANUARY – FEBRUARY 2024

A significant part of Obloukova Street is now adorned with a new cherry tree avenue, which brings a pleasant atmosphere to the area. Precise surveying of the terrain required repeated visits to decide on the optimal placement of each tree. We have also completed the planting at the Formanská North site (A6) and the Nad Pískovnou avenue (A7) is under construction. We are proud of the progress we have made and are pleased to announce that thanks to a partnership with the town of Klecany we have successfully completed the planting in Boleslavka Avenue (A8).

MARCH 2024

Each phase of the project is very important. The aftercare to ensure that the trees are well established is not neglected. As the spring is quite dry, regular watering is very important. New planting is also carefully staked and regularly checked.

Due to Zdibi’s excellent success in obtaining funding from Norway Grants, it was decided to produce a document detailing their achievements. We believe that this document will not only provide inspiration but also motivation for many other municipalities and towns to get involved in the process of applying for these funds. A team of experienced professionals immediately began their several months of work. We are looking forward to the result, which will present not only the individual actors of the projects but also the results of many years of work of the whole teams. Our planting of greenery in forming a protective ring of many parts of the village is one of the four projects that the documentary will capture in Zdiby.

The photos show both the care of the gardening company and the work of the filming team.

APRIL 2024

This month, we are planting two new sites. These are two replacement sites that we found for 52 unplanted trees from site A8 – Boleslavka, where we reduced the number of trees after consultations with farmers who farm on leased neighbouring fields.

In the first case, it is basically a stretch of planting adjacent to the A8 Boleslavka site to plot no. Klecany. Here we are planting 12 fruit trees of the common pear. As part of the preparation of this new site, we are revitalizing the existing old pear trees, whose trunks have been smothered with ballast, and planting new pieces in the vacant spaces.

In the second case, we are planting 40 fruit trees in the new site Nad Lomem, plot no. 647, area no. Klecany. We are happy that our cooperation and communication with the local agricultural cooperative brings the possibility of a completely new fruit alley! You can look forward to 8 domestic apple trees, 15 bird cherries, 6 domestic plums, 6 pear trees.

We are also installing crutches for predators. It is a tried and tested practice that predators sit on these crutches while hunting and resting and thus miss the weak branches of freshly planted trees and do not destroy them with their weight.

The acacia stakes that we place at the planting in turn mark the planting boundaries in a visible way and prevent agricultural machinery from driving up to the trees and destroying them during harvesting.

We have also managed to purchase small equipment worth CZK 200 000 as part of the project, which will help us to keep the greenery in good condition and protect it from overgrowth.

Spring is extremely dry, so we pay increased attention to irrigation and maintenance work.
